Our Kairos energy storage project is located in Belgium and is strategically positioned at a former coal-fired power plant, allowing it to utilize the existing infrastructure. The energy storage business model provides further investment diversification for the fund’s portfolio.

Why is the asset attractive?

  • The location of a former coal-fired power plant allowed for optimal reuse of the infrastructure, including the grid connection.
  • Balancing power fluctuations in the grid—whether due to production fluctuations or increased demand—to ensure a continuous energy supply.
  • Use of lithium iron phosphate batteries, a leading technology for stationary storage that is preferred from an environmental perspective because it does not contain metals such as cobalt and nickel.
  • Attractive regulatory frameworks and deployment incentives for energy storage create a favorable environment.
  • The implementation of these energy storage projects serves as an ideal complement to existing and future energy generation projects.
