Sagres hydropower plant
Project overview
The Sagres hydropower plants in detail
Our 21 small hydropower plants are located in central and northern Portugal and are well diversified regionally. The topographical location (mountainous terrain combined with proximity to the Atlantic Ocean) allows for reliable and long-term energy generation. In some cases, power generation can be adapted to market conditions by means of retention basins in order to ensure even more efficient use of the plants.
Why is the asset attractive?
Advantages
- Hydropower is the most sustainable form of energy generation
- Well-predictable returns due to feed-in tariffs during the first ten years
- Concession extensions are possible
- Around 80% of the electricity produced is compensated through an attractive feed-in system, ensuring stable and predictable cash flows
ESG relevance
- As early as 2008, the grid operator implemented a certified environmental management system in accordance with NP EN ISO 14001. As part of this certification, extensive environmental aspects are incorporated into all planning and decision-making processes across all levels of the value chain. Additionally, we strictly follow the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).
- The technical advisor Aqualogus has identified no negative environmental impacts and does not expect any in the future.
