At a Glance
The "Die Welle Köln" neighborhood development on the former Deutsche Welle site in Marienburg spans 66,000 m² and offers a mix of residential, commercial, and daycare facilities. Shops for daily necessities, schools, supermarkets, and public transportation are within walking distance. Energy is supplied by rooftop solar panels and district heating.
Why is the asset attractive?
- Revitalization through a comprehensive asbestos removal project
- Neighborhood development for the repurposing of an existing development (former Deutsche Welle site)
- 20,000 metric tons of steel beams were cleaned and prepared for reuse in the project
- In general, the site’s redesign focused on the recycling of materials from the demolition of existing buildings, as well as the conservation of natural resources and green spaces
- Heating and hot water supplied via district heating with highly efficient primary energy factors
- Roof activation through green roofs with photovoltaic systems
- Car-sharing and electric charging infrastructure for cars and bicycles
- The DWK project focuses on the development of neighborhood districts that aim to optimally integrate various land uses, social aspects, and infrastructure through mixed-use planning
- A daycare center with six groups, built using sustainable timber construction
